Manatees (family Trichechidae, genus Trichechus) are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows.
These fabulous creatures can be found coming very near the shores and sea walls around Biscayne Bay. We saw these while walking near the Four Season's Hotel in Miami today. It's about 10 minute walk from our apartment. They are really nice and don't move away from visitors being curious like we were.
